ABOUT SLDT

        SINING LAHI DANCE TROUPE was organized through the efforts of the Lakan Dula High School faculty and staff, that aims to promote Philippine arts, culture and traditions through music and dances.

Sining Lahi means “the arts of our races”, in which the group was inspired to organized and perform the variety of the arts of the different races of the Filipinos by showcasing an array of published and unpublished Philippine folk and foreign folk dances.       Artistically and intelligently selected to create an outstanding repertoire of dances, from the scenic Mountain Province of the North, known as the Cordillera, it has a repository of dances and music that bespeaks of the tribes’ wilderness in their blood and the freedom of their spirit, down to the exotic Mindanao that has cultural diversity which are apparent in the mix of Christians, Muslims, and around 26 ethno linguistics groups collectively called LUMADS, with their different distinct cultural traditions, not to forget the golden moments to celebrate life’s milestone – weddings, socials, community activities including the most popular, most celebrated and most attended Philippine fiestas and festivals. It was portrayed in a rustic setting for which the Philippines is best known, as well as the Spanish influenced dances also known as the “Maria Clara dances” that shows the legacies of Spain.

      The troupe has been invited to perform in various occasions sponsored by local and international agencies. They were chosen as one of the principal performer in big productions such as; the Girl Scouts of the Philippines 50th Anniversary; United Nations Annual Anniversary Celebration; Manila – Fujian Athletics Opening and Closing Ceremonies; Mayflower International Luxury Liner; Pitong Alay CCP’s National Arts Month Launching Program; Sari-Saring Sayaw, Sama-Samang Galaw and “PASINAYA”  FESTIVAL during February in celebration of the Arts Month at the Cultural Center of the Philippines featuring various leading folk dance groups; one of the representative for the 1st  Manila International Folk Dance Festival “LAWISWIS”; WOW Philippines, Intramuros; Back – to – Back  dance concerts with the Phil-Chinese, Phil-Japan, Phil-Thai Friendship Celebrations.

The group has also had other invitational performances at Concert at the Park, corporate shows, malls and provincial shows. Sining Lahi’s efforts to promote and preserve Philippine arts and culture through folk dancing has merited numerous citations and honors, they emerged champion on the following competitions; Rotarian Folk Dance Festival, Paskong-pasko Street Dance Festival, Lakbayaw Street Dance Festival, International Peace Cultural Festival. In their recent full-length concert “ Indak… Salamin ng Kulturang Pilipino”, folk dance researcher/ choreographer and National Artist in Dance, Mr. Ramon Obusan of the Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group acknowledged the group as “one of the promising folk dance group in the Philippines.

At present the group is a regular performer at the La Fiesta , one of the largest buffet restaurant in the Philippines. Sining Lahi’s goal to promote Philippine culture through folk dances will be their lifelong commitment, touching the heart of each Filipino and people around the world.
